What personal data we collect and why we collect it

This website uses Google Analytics to help analyse how a user uses this site. Google Analytics uses ‘cookies’, which are small text files placed on your computer, to collect standard internet log information and visitor behaviour information in an anonymous form. Note the deliberate emphasis on anonymous, as no personally identifiable information is collected about you unless you explicitly submit that information via a fill-in form on this website. So if I need personal info from you = for example, your email address to contact me via contact form, to add a blog comment, or subscribe to the Stylish Academic newsletter – I will ask for it and you will have the option to provide it or not.

This anonymous information generated by the cookies, about your use of the website (Including your IP address) is transmitted to Google. This information is then processed to compile reports on the performance of the website by the Stylish Academic team. The team uses this reports to evaluate aggregate visitor usage so that we can optimise the content and its marketing to better meet your needs. Your IP address is collected purely for the purpose of determining geographic location of visitors to an accuracy that is typically within a 40 km radius. We will not link, or seek to link an IP address with the identity of a computer user. In fact , we will not associate any data gathered from this site with any personally identifiable information from any source, unless you explicitly submit that information via a fill-in form. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you wish for your personal information to be deleted from this site, please contact me at tee@stylishacademic.com, and I will do this at the earliest opportunity. Note that in removing your personal details, all your associated content is deleted – such as comments you have made.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies
