After weeks of teasing, summer has finally decided to make a grand entrance. While others bask in the sunlight at the poolside in bikinis, there’s work to be done on this side of the divide – scripts to mark, dissertation students to supervise, or paper deadlines to meet.
You might partially lose your outdoors, but you don’t have to lose your style along with it.
What are the basic summer essentials that fit the academic lifestyle?
1) The Dresses – A-Line, Shift, Maxi (depending on your body type).
I should do a post on dressing for your body-type soon. Very.co.uk has some lovely dresses for sale here.
2) Sandals – open toe, strappy, gladiators etc.
3) Embellished or Denim Jackets
It might be summer, but it does get a little bit chilly in the evenings. This embellished jacket from Alice + Olivett is a lovely way to maintain summery while protecting yourself from the breeze. Denim jackets are also staple items for dressing down work dresses at the end of the day.
4) Sunglasses – protect your eyes and be stylish while at it. Why squint?
Check out these gorgeous wooden babies from Woodmylondon. Less pricy alternatives are available on the high-street, and they are equally as chic.
If the festival look is for you, then a palazzo is an absolute must-have. They come in such lovely prints, so much so I am tempted to try one myself. Being wide-legged in style, they are very comfortable to wear and strut in.
Folake of Style Pantry works the palazzo with finesse here, paired with a light stripped tee.
Other summer trends include fringe-styled jackets, bags, skirts, polka-dot and floral frocks, and a lot of print-anything.
