Wow, what a remarkable success the debut edition was!
In case you missed it, please meet the Stylish Academics of the Week #1 here.
We asked you to nominate academics for week two, and here they are!
The next time anyone tells you academics are badly-dressed people, bookmark these links for a rewarding clap-back!
@BackonAir is a Lecturer in Fashion Design and a menswear and streetwear designer.
In this photo, he is wearing a vintage trench purchased years ago in NYC (note to self – buy timeless pieces), GStar cropped pants and Yezzy Belugas V2. We are in awe of your style!
When you think of academic researchers working on their manuscripts, you may imagine them working from home in pajamas – not Science.Sam though! She is slaying her manuscript in trendy frayed hems.
Science.Sam is wearing a pair of jeans from Forever21 stylishly paired with a simple white t-shirt & an Apple watch.
Meet Ceri Brenner who was on her way to give a public talk in London. She works as an application development scientist for high power lasers, and this talk was about medical imaging and nuclear waste inspection applications – a project she is working on. Ceri says it was a Saturday daytime event, so she wanted to wear something stylish but casual.
Ceri we love your layering skills!
More about her personal style:
“I often wear heels when I do public speaking at conferences or outreach, as I prefer my posture in them. Block heels and wedges are my absolute fave as I find them really comfortable and they actually come across pretty casual. My new love at the moment is platform shoes/sandals paired with wide leg trousers – the perfect blend of casual academic chic. And I really love the term Androgynous Chic, which I learned from your website.
I love a trouser suit! Well, I mean a strong blazer and trouser combo. I rarely wear a matching two-piece for the office and conferences. And I have an awesome pair of Nike Airs for when I’m working on an experiment.”
We look forward to seeing more from you on the series Ceri!
PhD Fashionista (Andrea) is wearing a custom-made dress from Eshakti, a clothing site.
Shoes – Nine West from TJ Maxx (and purse also)
“I wore this dress to a lunch meeting in the summer…”
See our Meet the Scholar feature with Andrea.
Meriame is an MSci Physics student at Imperial College, London, and her research work is the field of laboratory astrophysics.
“I was going to Holland Park to work on my Masters thesis. I find writing with nature around me just so peaceful and my concentration levels are so much better than when I am in the library…”
Academic 6 Just a little something the SA team would like you to remember…
